Bathroom Makeover

The bathroom is the first room in the house we re-did.
Here's the old wall paper. I think it's the same paper from when the house was built. There was nothing under it but drywall.

It peeled right off- so satisfying!

The Monkey helped.

Big hole in the wall where the tile toilet paper holder was. The Monkey complained about the lack of mirror. He said, "I need to see my face while I wash my hands!"

Our friend Dave did a lot of work in here for us. He was great!

After! We painted it a light turquoise color. It feels very clean and bright after that brownish wallpaper.

I don't have pictures of the rest- we put in a new light, new TP holder, new hooks for towels and knobs on drawers and cabinets. Now all I need is to decide what to put on the walls. I'm thinking something black and white.

Next project- painting the front room! We're planning on moving our couches and TV in there, too, and making the back room our play room.

Picture Thursday

Check out those eyelashes!

Silly Monkeys! Please note her diaper cover- we had to get new ones, because she's outgrown her others.

He picked at his bellybutton, and it bled. We slapped some neosporin and a bandaid on it. Later, he was complaining that the bandaid wasn't staying down, so he used scotch tape to keep it in place.

He's laughing, she's giving the hairy eyeball.

I love this!!

"More than 200 dancers were performing their version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt! Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 08:00 AM. It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music"'

Homeowners!

We are now the proud owners of seven trees, eleven doors (including one fake one!), six windows, four sinks, five closets, and one roof!

And, yes, I've already been to look at paint colors!

Pictures!

RJ didn't have to shave for a whole two months! I liked the beard.

Baby and her Bow. She's not very happy about it, though. If you look up behind her, the Boy is on the top of the bleachers!

Boy and his construction. He'll work on this for hours!

After the bath in her bear towel.

Sleepy girl. I love those socks!

Confessions

Managing the children's clothes stresses me out.

I saved all of the Child's clothes, thinking that they'd be used again.
hahahahahaha!
We've used some of them- the gender neutral stuff. And I'm saving the fun t-shirts (Star Wars, band shirts, etc...) and the jeans for the Baby to wear.

Now, though, I'm going through all of his old clothes and I'm going to either give them away or re-sell a lot of them. Not everything, but a lot!

The problem with the Child is that he never really grows out of things. Sure, they'll get too short, but never too tight. So sorting through clothes with him is a battle of me telling him to try a shirt on, him trying it on while I'm looking through other clothes, him declaring that it fits and taking it off before I have a chance to really decide if it fits. Getting rid of clothes that he really loves sends him into a spiral of grief and despair and tears and pleading.

And with the Baby, she's outgrowing her newborn and 0-3 month clothes, so I'm trying to weed out what doesn't fit her anymore, and get out the stuff that will fit her soon. All the while trying to make sure that she wears the things that I really love.

And after that, it's the sorting of clothes to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. It makes me crazy! It's like it's a never-ending cycle of sorting through clothes!

Hiccups...again

another movie for Grandpa

Seriously, she gets the hiccups all day long. At least she's not in the womb anymore- that was so irritating!

Easter Yoda

The Monkey and the Baby in her Easter dress.

In other news... I think the baby resembles Yoda.

It's the big cheeks/small nose/small chin combo.

See it?

Maybe this will help...

The Baby is one month old today! We weighed her on Friday, and she weighs 10 pounds!

Picture Tuesday

My sweet babies...

...
I was trying to get a picture of her crazy hair, and I caught this little smile...

Her hair is super crazy, though. It's so long that it gets stuck all different directions when she's laying down. And when it's clean, it feathers up and sticks out all over the top of her head.

What Baby and Daddy do every morning...

In the mornings, she wakes around 6 or 7 to eat, then sleeps for another hour or two. By that time, the Child has woken up, so I get up and get him breakfast and then take a shower. RJ snuggles the Baby so she'll stay asleep.

Got up this morning to go to the Rhea Lana half price sale this morning before RJ had to go to work.

The Child got a Star Wars shirt. The Baby got some onesies, a cute little dress and some t-shirts, which are nice to use with her cloth diapers.

Speaking of her cloth diapers- I'm really loving using cloth! We use plain ol' prefolds, with Thirsties diaper covers. She's in disposables for nighttime and for going out, but in cloth all during the day when we are home. (which we usually are!)

The Baby and her beautiful Me-Maw

Big Brother and Little Sister shirts

Baby's First Bandaid. She had her heel prick done on Friday.

Getting out of the House

Sunday we made two trips to Walgreens. The Child has some sort of rash on his face. (Official Diagnosis, Dermatitis) And we also went to Jason's Deli for takeout.

Today, First Official Doctor's Visit. Actually, we took both children in. The Child for his face, the Baby for her first well-baby visit. I was so anxious about getting out of the house, getting there on time, etc... It went really well, though! We really like the doctor who was recommended to us, and liked the nurses, too.

The Child was nervous about the doctor visit- which should tell you how often we go to the doctor! He told me yesterday that he wasn't going to go, that he would stay home by himself. He said that the only doctor he liked was Ms. Carrie (our midwife). So yesterday we talked about what would happen and that we would be with him the entire time. He was nervous at first, but did really great! He even talked to the doctor! And the doctor did really great with him, I liked that.

After the doctor, we went to Barnes and wandered a little and got coffee. The Baby was content and slept in her sling the entire time! It was great- going out in public with a newborn/baby is not my cup of tea- it makes me nervous. I think because you never know what mood they'll be in. But we had a good morning. Now we've just got to recover from it!

Saturday, March 21, 2009

Well, this time last week, contractions were getting strong and regular!

We haven't done much this week. In fact, we only left the house yesterday, and only left to go on a walk around the block. Mara slept the whole time.

Other accomplishments... her cord stump fell off last night. She screamed through the night on Tuesday. She's getting stronger- been trying to hold her head up since day 1.

Just after our walk.

Not Yet

RJ's phone died while he was out doing Army stuff yesterday.
He said he expected to come home to find Mom, Naomi and the midwife here. And a very angry, laboring wife.

Holy Cow!

39 weeks!

Obsession

I'm sure I've blogged about this before, but we're in the process of showing the Monkey the Star Wars movies.

We watched episode III a couple of weeks ago, and it was so fun! When Anakin becomes Darth Vader, the Monkey's jaw dropped and he was all, "No way!"

Well, last night, we watched episode IV- A New Hope. The Monkey loved it! He kept asking who everyone was, even the background characters and the animals.

And, as RJ pointed out to me...
he was wearing a Star Wars t-shirt, and so was the Monkey.

Tradition

RJ brought back one of those individual packs of cereal from one of his trips to Ft. Sill. It was Froot Loops.

The monkey has been begging to eat them, so today, as a treat, he got to eat them as a snack.

As I was opening them, I said, "This is a treat, huh? We don't usually eat these!"

He said, "I do too! At Amy's mom's house!"

Funny thing is- I used to eat them at Amy's mom's house, too! Thanks for the treats, Ms. Wanda!

Baby Steps

Had my last risk assessment appointment today! Very exciting! That means all my ducks are in a row for this birth. All my lab work has been done, all my paperwork is together (or at least will be together after this weekend) and we've got all our supplies. Now all we need is for everyone to be available when this baby decides to make an appearance. (Actually, if I go two weeks overdue, I have to have another risk assessment done, complete with ultrasound, but I don't think it'll come to that!)

Also, I seem to have gotten really huge really quickly. I've been getting a lot of comments. The baby belly is also outgrowing some of my maternity clothes.
